You are a great writer, can you just lay off the profanity. I enjoyed your books, I try to read show and tell I had to quit, it was too much for me. Have a great day.
August 22, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Hi Niobia, How I may get a copy of the memorial program from Bernie Mac’c memorial service?
August 22, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Baby, I wish I knew. I just posted my owm little memorial to Bernie Mac on the site and I included info his publicist put out about the memorial. I saw from the news that he had a huge turn out like he deserved.

Hi Anonymous (your email is available but I won’t post it):
In truth, my trade books are a different genre for me from the romance so the content, the characters, and the language is mainstream. I’ll be honest that my trade books will have profanity at times–that was one of the freedoms of not writing romance which has stricter guidelines. I can understand that profanity is not a part of everyone’s language. That’s cool.
I appreciate your viewpoint and just recommend my romance books to you. I would never have readers buy something they weren’t comfortable reading.
Still, I thank you for your support.
Best,
N.
If Show and Tell is too much then PLEASE don’t read any of the Hoodwives books.
LOL.
August 30, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Ms. Niobia,
What can I say girl? You are one of the FEW writers whose book I will purchase (with my HARD EARNED MONEY) sight unseen and review unseen! You never disappoint. Your talent is enormous. Speaking for myself, with each work you show/teach me a little bit more about myself and remind me why (in spite of pain, frustration and the like), I can still believe in the power of true love, trust, care and laughter between a Black woman and a Black man.
Blessings to you and yours,
T.
August 30, 2008 at 2:46 pm
P.S. From your references to music in your writing, it seems that you are a music fan. Have you checked out Ky-Mani Marley’s “Radio”? It is one of my favs. Each time I hear track 6, it reminds me of the love that you showcase in your work.
Peace.

Hi Tracy,
Thank you. I appeciate people spending money on books when gas, food, and all the other necessities are so high. As a readers I have authors I buy automatically as well, so it thrills me to have readers tell me I am on of those authors for them.
Thank for the music recommendation. I will definitely check it out. I write to music and it helps me to create the emotion people always say they feel in my writing style.

Hi Ms. B,
How’s everything? i’m apart of your book club, and one of your biggest fans, i love all your books and especially how you branched off from the romance section, the hoodwives series is FANTABULOUS i love it, i almost had to fight a friend because i let her borrow a couple of your books, and i normally am very stingy when it comes to my books, but yeah she almost got a beat down because i was leavin for NC for college, where i attend Fayetteville State, and i’m majoring in English Lit.
holla at me. As long as you keep writing those wonderful book, i’ll get through college ok, your books get me in the zone. Enough rambling, you will always get praise from me for having the most wonerful books.
Much love to you ,
Lea, from NY to NC
September 5, 2008 at 1:27 am
Hi Lea,
Don’t beat your friend down. LOL.
Is this my buddy from myspace? If so, remember to stay focused while you away at college. Distractions of the wrong kind will have you back home with a quickness and we don’t want that.
I’m glad you love my books. When readers meet me and we talk they always say you write just how you talk. So these books are important to me because they are an extension of me.
I have PLENTY of books on the way. Writing is in my blood. I just wish I had the courage to start writing sooner–like high school. (Hint-hint)
Do good in school and continue writing, Lea.
Thanks for the luv and support of my books.
Best 2 U,
N.

hi niobia,
your writing is amazing, and i think you’re simply the bomb. i enjoy your website and your commentaries. keep doing what you doing! like you, i was born in the northeast (new york) but moved to sc. i no longer live in sc, but those amazing stories have me contemplating a move back, lol! do you think a fine and sexy big girl can get some love as a herione in a future book?
September 6, 2008 at 6:37 am
Thank you, Nikki.
You know I did a fuller figure heroine (Anika in HEAVENLY MATCH) and I caught flack because she wasn’t big enough. I think she was a size 14. I was like…wow. Okay. Damn.
Book covers are a pet peeve of mine as a reader and a writer. Lord, there is nothing worse than a cover that looks NOTHING like the characters. In fact, Anika on the cover of HEAVENLY MATCH is a size 4 or 6. When I saw it for the first time I was like WTF??!!!
So, I really like to try and match the characters to the covers that the editor/publisher give me. And the covers are generally up to them. These days publishers rarely hire models for photo shoots. They use photos that are already out there (stock photos from Corbis and DK Stock for example). And there’s not a lot–according to them–with full figured women in romantic poses.
Depending on when I see the cover I have even went back and changed the description so that the covers matches up. (Count on This is one book of mine that comes to mind).
I guess I have been letting the covers depict what I write and no one has really asked me about a big girl heroine in a while. To me all my heroines are at least a ten or twleve, but I really do need to do a big girl. A fierce and fabulous size 16 or 18 chick who is too hot to handle.
Now, I’m game but will the cover reflect it? God only knows. LOL. Ya’ll just promise not to complain b/c the cover is out of my hands.
Best 2 U,
N.
BUT…I’ve already written MAKE YOU MINE and I’ve already described Jade in FEVER so it will have to be my next romance after these two.
September 9, 2008 at 11:52 am
OF course it’s ME Ms. B, I’m more focused then ever now, first year was a little hard to adjust being away from home and all. But now that i’m a sophmore and more familiar i’m ready to get work done and get out EARLY. Now that i’m in my major and i have more knowledge in how to make my works better, i look at my stories i had wrote in high school and now i’m correcting and adding, just editing away
. You really did inspire me Ms. B, and the very first book i come to publish i’ll dedicate to you and my mama and aunts. which might be soon, you never know. So what’s your upcoming projects looking like Ms. B, my finger is right on the clicker to hit preorder, you just give a date and it’s a done deal. lol
well i better be loggin off i have a 12:30 class and the girl next to me is nosey. (i think she just read that part, LMAO) stay focus, positive, and continue to create success with your stories. Aspire to Inspire.
~Lea

I look forward to seeing my name on the dedication page of your first book.
I have a LOT going on. I’ll do a post today to update everyone all at once.

Hey Niobia,
I just want to let you know that hands down, you are my number 1 favorite writer. I feel that you must be a down to earth real a$$ woman, because your books are written in a way that is real, down to earth and believable. I have ALL of your books, every last one of them. I waiting on 2009 to roll around so I can get the rest. My question to you is, What advice would you give a aspiring writer? I am a new writer. I am working on my first book now. It’s a very difficult career choice with the uncertainty of it, but I love writing and I won’t be able to live with myself if I don’t pursue it. I am completely new to this and I look up to you and your work. I know you’ve been where I am and know what it’s like. I’m starting from nothing. No experiences, no previous work history and no contacts in the industry. What advice would you give to a new writer? Whether it is advice about the day to day struggle of writing, finding an agent or shopping my manuscripts independently, whatever you have to give will be worshipped.
Love always and keep up the good work,
Your number 1 Fan
September 20, 2008 at 4:05 am
Hi Mimi,
Sorry I didn’t answer you right away but I had to turn a book in by Friday and the answer to your questions wasn’t a one or two line response. LOL.
Plus, lots of people ask me this so I decided to make it a post on my blog.
Thanks so much for the luv and support and good luck with your writing career.
Best,
N.
PS I will eventually do a follow-up to Live and Learn & Show and tell but my next mainstream is MESSAGE FROM A MISTRESS. More details coming soon!
September 21, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Hey Niobia, you really made my day today. Thanks again so much for the post for Aspiring Writers. You gave more advice than you realize. I just finished checking out those two links and they are incredible. Lots of great information. I have to forward the links to my work e-mail, so I can even research more while I’m there. “Message From A Mistress” sounds like a very interesting title, I can’t wait to read the synopsis for it.
I was wondering, since you also have a Pen Name, is there a resource to find out if a Pen Name you want to use is already taken? Like a search you can do before you apply for one? How do you apply for a Pen Name? I’ve been battling back and forth about whether to write under one and I think I’ve decided it will be best for me not to write under my real name.
Thanks again, I can’t say it enough,
Your #1
September 21, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Hi Mimi,
You don’t have to apply for a pen name or pseudonym–at least I didn’t. With a publisher your contract will stipulate your legal name and your pseudonym. In terms of availablity, I guess a basic internet search. This isn’t like SAG (Screen Actors Guild) where you register or anything.
Mimi, I love that you have questions and you are thinking things through–I was the same way. I would seriously take all of the questions or “key terms” and do internet searches. You’ll be amazed by the info out there and learning as much as you can will help you in the end. Knowledge is power.
Best,
N.
September 22, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Thanks as always! You’re the BEST!!! Can’t wait for 01/09/2008.
September 23, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Hi Niobia,
Anxiously waiting for the Strong series to contine. Any word on that?
September 24, 2008 at 8:14 am
Hi Linda,
The next Strong book will be FEVER and it will be released after my May 2009 romance MAKE YOU MINE.
I love writing series but I can’t promise they will be released back to back. I have a lot of books I want to write and MAKE YOU MINE called to me–so I followed the call. Also because I am not self-published the release dates are up to my publisher. Please stay tuned for a firm release date. But it is coming for sure and thanks so much for the support.
Best 2 U,

I was just reading HEAVENLY MATCH and wanted to know was that all on the Holtsville series, I know that Devon and Deshawn had no other family but they did have friends have you thought of doing something with any of the other people in the town?
October 22, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Hey Niobia,
The new covers look great. Make You Mine looks exceptionally hot, I can’t wait for both The Hoodlife and Make You Mine to drop. May seems too far away. Did you pick the covers yourself? I also can’t wait for Fever, that is going to be an interesting pairing. I can already see it. Well, I just wanted to check in with you. Oh and Is the Pace Academy a new series or is it book of short stories? Well, that’s all for now, keep us updated and keep pumping out those books.
Much Love as always,

Thanks for stopping by the website and dropping me a note. I really appreciate the support from the readers and when deadlines are nipping at me I also need the encouragement at times to keep going. LOL.

Hi Bebe,
I wish I could tell you that my next mainstream book will be a follow-up to LIVE AND LEARN & SHOW AND TELL, but I can’t.
My next mainstream will be MESSAGE FROM A MISTRESS…but the next book after that may revisit the ladies from Show and Tell. I just wanted to give them time to grow up a little more and face newer challenges and drama.
Hope you understand.
Best,
N.
October 27, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Hi Ange,
FEVER has not been written. I just finished my May 2009 romance MAKE YOU MINE…but FEVER will be my next release after that.
Hold on, girl, its coming!!!

Hi Angelia,
The HOLTSVILLE series actually includes:
ADMISSION OF LOVE
HEAVENLY MATCH
HEATED *
HOT LIKE FIRE *
FEVER *
* These books are a joint series: Holtsville/ Family.
But I do plan to do books about Anika’s family some day–I just don’t know when because I’m obligated to complete other projects first.
Thanks for the support.
Best,
N.
October 27, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Hi Mimi,
The staff at the publishing house selects the covers–so sometimes I love them and sometimes I don’t. This time I’m very happy with both covers.
The Pace Academy series are full length books. Currently there are seven books planned so far. Stay tuned for more info.
And yes, I am anxious to get to FEVER. I love a hero who is not perfect–like Jordan from my book THREE TIMES A LADY. So this will be fun to wite and hopefully you all will enjoy reading it.
Thanks so much for all the support across the genres. I really, really appreciate, Mimi.
My best 2 U,
N.
October 28, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Hello,
I am a big fan of your book. Keep writing and I will keep buying. I have a question. My best friend have a dream of writing, but do not know the means of going about of getting her book published or what to do. I was wondering what she can do?
October 28, 2008 at 10:23 pm
That has to be difficult at times not to have that creative control over you covers, but when it works, it works. Those covers most certainly work. I really enjoyed Jordan and Mia’s story. Jordan was a fantastic character. Wow, you have seven full length books already lined up, that’s amazing. You work very hard. I hope you know how much we appreciate it. I also hope you get some down time to relax every now and then. Well thanks for telling me about the Pace Academy, I can’t wait to learn more.
Until next time,
#1
P.S Thank you soooooo much for putting me in touch with that Karen E. Quinones Miller website. Much like you, she is blessing to new writers like myself. She has so much information for us. She even gives seminars out of her house in PA. I live in MI, but if someone is willing to share that kind of wisdom, it’s worth traveling for. I e-mailed her to find out her next seminar date. Thanks for sharing this website with me.

Hi Niobia!!! I love your writings!! I haven’t had a chance to read your mainstreams yet, but your Romance novels are off the chain. Just have one quick question. Will you be releasing another “Strong ” Brother novel? I am ready for Kaeden. Nothing like a Intelligent brother!! LOL!! Take care and stay blessed!
November 7, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I love the Strong series. Do you plan to continue to story with the other brothers/sisters who are characters of the book. If so I would love to have the ALL. What a great gift that would be for someone.
November 13, 2008 at 9:57 pm
I love your romance novels. I’m waiting for you to finish Fever. I love that family. I feel like I know them all. No I’m not crazy, your descriptions of everyone is so vivid that it makes me feel like I know them. It makes me just want to read more about them. Good luck with your weight loss. I am a sister in the struggle. Lets just say I started @ 196 lbs, I lost 30lbs I still have 20 to 30 more pounds to go. Keep the faith and stay focused.
November 18, 2008 at 7:02 pm

Hi Niobia,
THANK YOU so much for the awesome presentation you gave on the Santa Baby 2008 Virtual Book Tour. The tour has been a HUGE success and Renee and I could not have done it without. I wish you continued success with all of your writing endeavors!
Take care of yourself and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
December 11, 2008 at 7:23 pm
OMG, April 2010 is so far away. I’m still excited though, I can’t wait to check out the Young Adult series, I know you will master that genre like your others. I tried to send you a e-mail on MySpace, but I’m having trouble with my computer. Did you get anything from me? If not, I’ll try to resend it another time. Well, I’m anxiously anticipating The Hood Life and Fever. Can’t wait!!
December 15, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Hey Niobia, in your own words, what is the definition of mainstream fiction? I think it’s just a way of putting a name on general fiction that may not be easily classified into the other catagories, is that close?
December 17, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Thanks Marlive,
I had a blast. Thanks for inviting me to participate.
Best,
N.
December 17, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Hi Jamila/Mimi,
Mainstream fiction, contemporary fiction, commercial fiction–all the same thing. I use mainstream so that the readers can distinguish between the four genres I write in.
Best,
N.
January 7, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Hey Niobia, do u ever come to Michigan on book tours? Also, I read that you have 2 bachelor degrees. That’s great. How did you managed to do that and become a successful writer? Did you write your first manuscript before, during or after college?
January 10, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Hi Mimi,
I didn’t begin seriously writing books after college. I didn’t write full-time until a few years ago. I’m happy to do what I love for a living but having my degrees to fall back on gives me more confidence to try new things because I know the safety net is there.
Best,
N.
January 12, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Niobia, your response came right on time. Having the safety net of a degree is so important now-a-days. My first day of school, after several years of not going, is tomorrow. I’m very nervous about going back after so long, but I’m happy to be doing something productive for the new year. I’m writing too, so I’m happy about that. I can’t wait for the day I can write full time. But, I am happy for what I’m doing now. I really value your advice and opinions so it’s good to hear you say something so relevant to my life right now. The fact that you take the time out to talk to your fans is huge. I hope you know how much.
P.S. I just got my copy of The Hood Life and can’t wait to read it. I’m anxiously awaiting the release of your next romance. You definitely rule that genre and I’ve missed yours.
January 13, 2009 at 6:12 am
Your so welcome, Mimi. Good luck with your studies.
Best,
N.
January 15, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I love all your books i would like to know when can i expect to see fever I have been dying to read it
January 15, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Hi Angel,
The book FEVER has a new title: GIVE ME FEVER and it drops January 2010! In fact I am in the process of reading the page proofs as we speak–that is the final step before my editor at Dafina sends it to be printed.
Best,
N.
January 15, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Niobia how did you hook up with Adrianne Byrd to be co-writers? You’re a good writing team. I just wonder how that came about. Oh and I always wondered how you pronounced your name. Is it pronounced like No-bia or Neo-bia?
January 17, 2009 at 8:15 am
Hi Mimi,
Its pronounced Nye-oh-bee-ah.
Adrianne and I were just kicking around ideas one day and decided to write a book together. We were friends prior to coming up with the Hoodwives series.
Best,
N.

January 27, 2009 at 7:09 am
Hi Be,
I wish I could give you good news…but I can’t.
I have a publisher who has thier own schedule of all books to be released. I will do a follow-up to the girls one day, but the book coming out in 2010 is MESSAGE FROM A MISTRESS. Trust me, this book is filled with plenty of drama to keep you occupied until Cristal, Dom, Alize, and Moet return…a little older and hopefully a lot wiser.
Thanks so much for reading my books.
My Best 2 U Always,
N.
January 30, 2009 at 12:56 pm

February 3, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Thank you Lisa. I hope you enjoy the books. Please let me know what you think about them…especially the mianstreams. They have that same vibe as the Hoodwives series…just not quite as raw.
My best 2 U,
